Information. Access. Appliance.
"People don't need computers, they need information and knowledge"
This was the founding declaration of BSn back in 1992-- going back to a speech E. Zimmermann held in 1974 at one of the earliest (if not the first) microcomputer fairs-- and continues to be its
motto: From pen based information appliances a dozen years ago to information appliance servers today.
To move to this goal it was natural that BSn would became an early Internet service provider--- the
first in Eastern Germany and the first in Bavaria to offer PPP connectivity over modem and ISDN lines--- and an instrumental
early developer of the WWW and numerous information initiatives such as GILS.
Since central to helping people get the information and knowledge they need is
discovery via search and retrieval and, at a higher level, management, BSn has been a front-line developer of not just technology and software but also an active participant in many standards development processes.
